Personal Mindfulness & Insight Meditation Practice
My mindfulness and insight meditation practice is deeply rooted in traditional and contemporary techniques that cultivate self-awareness, emotional regulation, and holistic well-being. I have integrated various practices over the years, drawing from both structured training and lived experience.
Core Practices & Techniques
- Breath Awareness Meditation (Anapanasati) – I practice daily focused breathwork to anchor my awareness in the present moment. This involves observing the natural inhale and exhale, which helps regulate my nervous system, reduce stress, and deepen self-awareness. I primarily perform this practice the moment I open my eyes.
- Body Scan Meditation – I engage in body scan meditations, which allow me to identify and release stored tension, connect with bodily sensations, and practice deep relaxation.
- Loving-Kindness Meditation (Metta) – I incorporate Metta meditation into my routine, focusing on sending compassion and positive intentions to myself and others, which has been instrumental in my personal healing journey.
- Shadow Work Reflection & Journaling – As part of my self-inquiry process, I integrate shadow work techniques with mindfulness. This involves bringing awareness to subconscious patterns, limiting beliefs, and unprocessed emotions through reflective meditation and expressive journaling.
- Art as a Meditative Practice – As a visual artist, I use creative expression as a form of mindfulness. Engaging in intuitive painting and freeform sketching allows me to enter a flow state, deepening my connection to the present moment.
Teachers, Training & Traditions
- Formal Study: I have studied various mindfulness and insight meditation teachings from Buddhist and secular sources, including the works of Thich Nhat Hanh, Pema Chödrön, and Jon Kabat-Zinn.
- Holistic Training: My background as a certified crisis counselor and holistic life coach has provided me with formal training in mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) techniques, emotional resilience practices, and cognitive behavioral approaches that integrate mindfulness.
- Herbal & Holistic Practices: As an herbal medicine practitioner, I also engage in mindful tea ceremonies and breath-infused herbal rituals to enhance grounding and intentionality in my daily life.
Current Expression & Application
- Daily Personal Practice: I engage in at least 20–30 minutes of meditation daily, alternating between breathwork, body scanning, and loving-kindness meditation.
- Professional Integration: In my work as a holistic life coach, I guide clients through mindfulness-based techniques tailored to their needs, helping them build emotional resilience, regulate stress, and improve overall well-being.
- Creative & Community Involvement: Through my art and coaching, I incorporate mindfulness practices into creative expression workshops and self-development courses, allowing individuals to experience meditation through non-traditional yet impactful methods.
My mindfulness practice is an evolving journey that continues to shape my personal growth, emotional balance, and ability to support others in their transformation.

😊
My coaching practice is deeply rooted in mindfulness-informed sensibilities, integrating principles of awareness, presence, and intentionality to guide individuals through personal transformation. As a holistic life coach, crisis counselor, and artist, I merge various disciplines to provide a comprehensive and tailored approach to personal growth, healing, and self-discovery.
Mindfulness as a Foundational Principle
At the core of my coaching is the understanding that true transformation begins with awareness—of thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and belief systems. Mindfulness allows clients to observe themselves without judgment, fostering a deeper connection to their inner world. I incorporate mindfulness in the following ways:
1. Grounding and Somatic Awareness
Many people experience disconnection from their bodies due to stress, trauma, or societal conditioning. I use mindfulness-based grounding techniques to help clients reconnect with their physical selves, such as:
- Breathwork exercises to regulate emotions and enhance focus.
- Body scans to increase self-awareness and address stored tension.
- Gentle movement or art-based practices to promote embodiment.
2. Shadow Work and Non-Judgmental Awareness
Since my coaching emphasizes shadow work and personal transformation, mindfulness is crucial in helping clients explore their unconscious patterns without self-criticism. I guide individuals through:
- Observing emotional triggers with curiosity rather than avoidance.
- Identifying and dismantling limiting beliefs through self-reflection.
- Cultivating self-compassion to embrace all aspects of the self.
3. Present-Moment Awareness in Decision-Making
A key aspect of personal transformation is making conscious, intentional choices. Mindfulness helps clients shift from reactive decision-making to thoughtful, values-aligned action. I support this by:
- Encouraging mindfulness journaling to process emotions and thoughts.
- Practicing mindful pauses before responding to difficult situations.
- Teaching techniques for discernment, ensuring decisions align with long-term goals.
4. Integrating Mindfulness with Art as Therapy
As a visual artist, I incorporate creative mindfulness exercises that allow clients to express emotions nonverbally and engage in a meditative flow state. Some practices include:
- Guided intuitive painting to tap into subconscious emotions.
- Mindful doodling for stress relief and cognitive clarity.
- Expressive storytelling through visual journaling.
5. Herbal and Holistic Wellness Integration
Since I also specialize in holistic wellness, I help clients develop mindful self-care rituals using herbal support and natural healing methods. This includes:
- Mindful tea ceremonies to cultivate presence and relaxation.
- Herbal-infused journaling prompts to reflect on emotional well-being.
- Personalized wellness plans integrating mindfulness with nutrition, movement, and herbal remedies.
The Outcome: A More Present, Empowered Self
By integrating mindfulness into my coaching approach, clients experience profound shifts in how they relate to themselves, others, and their life experiences. They become more resilient, self-aware, and empowered to navigate challenges with clarity and confidence. Through a blend of mindfulness, shadow work, holistic wellness, and creative expression, my coaching provides a deeply transformative journey toward personal growth and fulfillment.

Defining Mindful Work
Mindful Work is the practice of engaging in tasks, responsibilities, and creative endeavors with full presence, intentionality, and awareness. It is not just about productivity but about cultivating a deep connection with the process, ensuring that actions align with one’s values, purpose, and well-being. Mindful Work integrates mindfulness principles—such as awareness, focus, compassion, and non-judgment—into professional and personal pursuits, fostering both efficiency and fulfillment.
Core Principles of Mindful Work
- Presence and Full Engagement
Mindful Work requires being fully present in the moment, whether engaging in a conversation, creating art, coaching a client, or completing a task. This means eliminating distractions and focusing on the experience itself rather than simply rushing toward an outcome. - Intentionality and Purpose-Driven Action
Instead of working on autopilot, Mindful Work is about understanding the “why” behind each action. This ensures that tasks align with personal values, long-term goals, and overall well-being, rather than being dictated by external pressures or habitual routines. - Balance and Sustainability
Mindful Work encourages a sustainable work rhythm that honors both productivity and rest. It acknowledges that overworking leads to burnout, while intentional pauses and moments of reflection enhance creativity, clarity, and overall effectiveness. - Emotional and Cognitive Awareness
Practicing Mindful Work involves recognizing emotional states and thought patterns that influence performance. By cultivating self-awareness, individuals can navigate stress, self-doubt, and external pressures with greater ease, making more conscious decisions in their work. - Non-Attachment to Perfectionism
A mindful approach to work includes releasing the need for perfection. Instead of being overly critical or attached to rigid expectations, it encourages a growth mindset—where mistakes are seen as learning opportunities rather than failures. - Compassion and Ethical Integrity
Mindful Work extends beyond individual productivity to include ethical awareness, compassionate leadership, and mindfulness in interpersonal relationships. This means fostering kindness, understanding, and integrity in all professional interactions.
How Mindful Work Applies to My Coaching Approach
In my work as a holistic life coach, artist, and wellness practitioner, I integrate Mindful Work by:
- Encouraging mindful goal setting, where clients align their work with their values and emotional well-being.
- Teaching breathwork and focus techniques to enhance concentration and reduce stress while working.
- Incorporating creative mindfulness practices, such as art therapy, journaling, and visualization, to make work more intentional and fulfilling.
- Helping clients develop sustainable routines that prioritize self-care alongside productivity.
- Supporting individuals in identifying and releasing limiting beliefs that hinder progress in their professional or personal pursuits.
The Result: Work Becomes a Pathway to Growth and Fulfillment
When work is approached mindfully, it transforms from being a mere obligation into a meaningful, enriching experience. It fosters a sense of fulfillment, reduces stress, and enhances both professional and personal well-being. Mindful Work is not just about what we do—it’s about how we do it, ensuring that every task, project, or creative endeavor contributes to a deeper sense of purpose and joy.

My Story.
I was born during the later part of the 1960ies and my teenage years were during the 1980s. During the early 1980s, I had my first child, the beautiful smart, successful, and intellectual woman she is today makes me very proud to point out that she is mine. Following her not eleven months later I gave birth to my oldest son, who is also very handsome, smart, and can certainly hold his own in life which makes me awe so proud to write about as well. His nickname is “Science.” Soon after having my first two children, I married their father, and then some two years later gave birth to our youngest edition to the family who is deceased and went by the nickname “A-T-L.” No, his parents didn’t give him this nickname he gave it to himself once he reached adulthood. Unfortunately, ATL was murdered by another soldier in his barracks while preparing for his second tour to Iraq. ATL was 22 years old at the time of his demise. It was truly a senseless murder. The guy who caused his death was the same age of 22 years old and it was jealousy related to a female soldier. He left me no grandchildren but I’m happy to tell you that I do have a total of five dynamic grandchildren by my two remaining children.
Being reared by highly dysfunctional parents inclusive of a dysfunctional community I made some life choices that were not conducive towards setting me nor my own family up for a life of ease. Becoming pregnant at the age of fourteen and conceiving a child at the age of 15 years old wasn’t something that I had set out to do but due to my cognitive thinking being askew as I found out many years later as an adult, is a primary reason why I made the choices I had made in life. You see I thought being pregnant and having a baby would stop my parents from being so strict with me and that now I could leave from in front of the house and off of the porch. I could now go to the malls, visit lake Michigan without my parents and hang out with my friends. Well, it did stop my stepfather from beating me but it only caused more friction between him and my mother which also helped to cause more resentment from my mother because I was bringing in mouths she wasn’t prepared to take care of and neither was I nor my children father. Although, my children’s father did marry me and he did join the Air Force and moved his family to the State of Louisana where he was stationed to serve out his military time. We waited to be called to move onto the Air Force Base but that never happened and primarily due to his misappropriation of funds. That’s another dark story within itself. It was such a disappointment to have left my home in Chicago where my mother lived and raised her family only to have to return with two kids in tow and one in the furnace of the belly. During and in between this time my mother’s marriage had ended. In my mother’s mind about me, I think, I thought I should have been more. Because just before I became pregnant with my first child I had the opportunity with the potential to become a Supermodel. I thought and believed my mother was so ashamed and disappointed in me. Needless to say, I felt lower than trash, perhaps the thing that eats the trash. Yeah, that.
By this time my self-esteem and confidence were practically shot. If it hadn’t been for others that I’ve met during those periods of my life who uplifted me with encouraging words and pushed me to seek out my passion if only to see where it would take me I’d probably be sitting somewhere yet twiddling my thumbs hoping and wishing for a miracle to show up. The reality and truth of it all yet is, I have to be the one to make the decisions and choices for my own life because it is always going to be me, myself and I who will have to deal with the results of my choices. Yes, I could’ve leaned back on my religious structure of belief and blindly I had for a while. But after putting myself and my family through shameful evictions. Working jobs that simply weren’t paying enough barely getting by while seeing my children looking and feeling less than. And then one dies after all of the praying and trying to live a decent life but failing badly at that. I finally realized that something just isn’t working for me and I needed to discover what that something was/is. I sought out a Therapist but he really didn’t help me much after his diagnoses of my having CBD. This is all that led me on my journey for self-discovery/personal growth.
I received my BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago where I majored in Studio Art having minors in Art Ed/Art Therapy I began work as a professional Visual Artist/Art Instructor where I honed in on my knowledge and skills and started writing arts outreach programs and curriculum for some of Chicago’s top academic institutions, community centers and arts programs authorities such as Arts Resources in Teaching. Archi-treasures. Chicago’s Beverly Arts Center and Chicago’s Public Art Group as Independent Contractor. I eventually landed what I thought was my dream job with the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center located on the far Southside of Chicago being one of the largest Salvation Armies in the nation as their first Art Instructor/Arts Manager I was given the opportunity to create and establish their Academy of the Arts Department. Along my life path, I got my certifications as a domestic violence Counselor. Non-profit Board Member certification. Social Media Marketer certified, and License Professional Foster Parent. In the year of 2009, my youngest son, Robert, was an Army Soldier and during his second term, he was murdered by another soldier of his Ranks. Today, I have two attractive, intelligent, and smart life go-getter adult children who have blessed me with five grandchildren who are gorgeous, smart, innovative thinkers between the both of them. Having come from a very dysfunctional family and community environment along with the aforementioned experiences lead me to want to learn about the human spirit and mind which lead me to become a certified life coach who incorporates art as therapy. And, by the way, Because I personally view life as a beautiful gift to be experienced I don’t see where I currently am as my final destination but more becoming the highest version of myself while achieving my perspective of success.
